How to Build an Audience on Snapchat

How to Build an Audience on Snapchat

How to Gain followers on Snapchat

If you’re new to Snapchat, you’re probably wondering how to gain followers when it feels like you’re a lone ghost in an abandoned town on the network because there’s no way to interact with people unless you manually search them and add them as a friend. Rather than typing random usernames and hoping they are in your target audience, you need to leverage your other social media networks to build a following on Snapchat. Here are five effective ways to build a Snapchat audience:

Include Your Snapchat Username in All Your Social Media Bios

You should add your Snapchat username in all of your social media bios because new followers who have Snapchat will likely check you out there. Don’t rely on new followers to happen across one of your tweets or Facebook posts giving out your Snapchat username. You will gain followers faster by including your handle in your social media bios.

On Other Social Networks, Tell People Why They Should Follow You on SnapChat

In addition to sticking your Snapchat handle in your social media bios, you should regularly tell people why they should follow you there. Remember to include a picture of your snapcode or state your username in the post too. If you don’t tell them what your username is, they’re not going to follow you. Make it as easy as possible for them to follow you on Snapchat. Be creative or funny in your approach, especially if it matches your brand. Let people know what kind of content they can expect from your Snapchat.

Upload a Picture of Yourself or an Image That Represents Your Brand

A picture of yourself as your profile image works better than other types of photos on social media because social users want to see the real person behind the screen. If you don’t want to upload a picture of yourself as your profile pic on Snapchat, then your second best option is an image that represents your brand.

Create Short Snapchat Stories

Don’t create long stories on Snapchat because your followers will skip past it while going through their stories. You don’t want them to develop the habit of skipping your snaps. Keep your stories short and valuable. If it’s not entertaining, useful, or emotional, then don’t post it. Quality is better than quantity on all social networks, but this is especially true for a site like Snapchat.

Every once in a while if you want to create a long story, inform your followers in advance and let them know what it will be about, so they can decide whether or not to tune in. Try to entice people to watch your upcoming story by leaving cliffhangers, building tension, and hitting a pain point in your target audience.

Ask People to Follow You on Reddit’s Snapchat Page

Another way to build an audience on Snapchat is to ask people to follow you on Reddit’s Snapchat page, as recommended by Snapchat influencer Ginicanbreathe. It’s a method she used to grow an audience on Snapchat. Just as when you ask people to add your Snapchat on other social media sites, Reddit is no exception to the rule of giving them a reason to follow you. You’ll see better results when you ask in a creative way and inform them of what they can expect to see from you.

Building an audience on Snapchat is easier when you implement the above tips. The worst thing you could do is not take any action to gain followers because they won’t add you if they don’t know you exist. Snapchat doesn’t have a search function like Twitter and LinkedIn, so you’re left to your own devices to gather a following. You must consistently reach out to people on your other social networks, including Reddit, to build a large following.

Are You Addicted to Snapchat? 5 Ways You Can Use Your Love for Snapchat to Advertise Your Business

Are You Addicted to Snapchat? 5 Ways You Can Use Your Love for Snapchat to Advertise Your Business

Social media has lifted business marketing to heights that once seemed untouchable. Who would’ve thought something everyone engages in every day would have such a positive impact on the way we achieve our sales goals? Looking at leading sites like Facebook and Twitter, it’s hard to imagine having such an overwhelming response from the ever-popular Snapchat app, but if you’re a fan of video streaming and using their entertaining photo filters, then take advantage of the app that sends more than 400 million messages a day by embarking on a new advertising quest! Here are five ways to do just that.

Are you hosting an event, visiting a specific location, or just want a more creative way to get your brand logo out there? Why not invest in Snapchat’s on-demand geo filters to enhance your business awareness?  These geographical graphics or texts appear over videos or photographs as a means to increase content value and further engage followers. Promoting yourself is as easy as honing your creative side and designing custom filters. Prices range based on the square foot of the area you’re applying the filter to.

With five times the average click rate compared to other platforms, it’s hard to ignore the effectiveness of Snapchat ads! Viewers can either skip the video clip or to take action to learn more whether it be to visit your website or download an app. Each snap ad last only ten seconds and appears between some, not all, stories. But seeing how these ads appear vertically, taking up the full mobile screen, there’s no way they won’t grab snapchatters’ attention.

snapchat lenses3.) Snapchat Lenses.

When users play around with lenses for an average of at least twenty seconds and follow-up by sharing with their friends, it’s no surprise this is the most powerful way to make an impact on the platform. Interaction is key to keeping your followers impressed and with sponsored Snapchat lenses, it’ll be next to impossible to dull their interest. You can keep it simple by opting for the casual press and hold option or you can prompt users to trigger the animation. This surefire tactic (and most expensive) is great for keeping things fresh, fun, and ultimately gain exposure.

4.) Snapchat Collaboration.

Teaming up with the best of the best is like second nature to you as reaching business success is a long shot without team work. This concept is no different in your Snapchat endeavors. Collaborating with influencers will allow you to get your business name and services in front of a larger, more diverse audience. Influencer marketing campaigns include four main tactics. First there’s the takeover, which is where you allow an influencer to take the reigns of your account for a certain amount of time. Then there’s product placement, where influencers incorporate a product or service of yours into their own content. Another option effective option is unboxing; influencers will open, use, and review your products. Or you can simply opt for offering a something of value in exchange for interacting with your brand’s content.

5.) Live Stories.

Why are millions of people so attracted to live stories? Because of that in-the-moment perspective. Not only are you handing snapchatters a glimpse of what you’re up to in the here and now, but they get to feel like they are there with you. Creating a live story of any events, business travels, or special sneak peeks at things to come will keep users highly engaged and assist in launching your Snapchat marketing success.

Taking your love for Snapchat and turning it into a remarkable marketing tool can only amplify your business success. When it comes to social media marketing, be on top of the game by checking out more awesome techniques and influencers will will be blogging about soon.

Snapchat History 101

Snapchat History 101

Snapchat’s rise to power is the dream story for wannabe social media networks and mobile applications. But how did an app originally branded as a “sexting app” end up capturing more than 100 million users? Let’s look deeper into the history of Snapchat starting with its beginnings and its rapid growth.

snap chat is bornSnapchat is Born

Supposedly the idea for Snapchat was born in 2011 at Stanford University after a friend of founders Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy sent a picture that he regretted. Spiegel worked on a prototype and presented his idea in a product design class to a very tepid response. Nevertheless, the founders pulled 18-hour days and officially launched in September of 2011.

Snapchat’s growth started slow, but once teenagers started using the app the sky was the limit. One year after launch, Snapchat had 10 million active users. Eventually Snapchat generated enough noise in the market to get an offer from Mark Zuckerberg to purchase the app for $3 billion. But instead of taking the offer, Spiegel and Snapchat doubled down rolling out updates such as Stories (where users can string snaps together) and Discover (a feature that allows for content from media companies). Now a mere five years later, Snapchat has 7 billion video views each day and over 100 million active users.

Snapchat’s First Uses

The first time many people ever heard the name Snapchat was likely in reference to its use as a sexting app. The fleeting nature of pictures and notifications of screenshots made it less risky to send photos that you wouldn’t want someone to save on their phone. While that is likely one of the ways that Snapchat is used, the way it gained its first audience was far from the appeal of easy sexting. Orange County high school students were first to embrace the app en masse on school-distributed iPads. With Facebook banned and no data plan, students could pass “notes” during class and watch the evidence disappear. The barriers for entry were low. Students didn’t need an iPhone and could participate on their iPod Touch without the prying eyes of parents.

In the early days of Snapchat, many people doubted its ability to succeed. But there are several reasons why it skyrocketed to success.

  1. Snapchat is closer to natural communication. The nature of human communication is fleeting. Conversations and events aren’t able to be captured. Snapchat reflects this idea that the moments disappear. While Facebook and Instagram fight against this and try to capture moments and make them eternal (nothing dies on the internet), Snapchat embraces it.
  1. Snapchat was attractive to teenagers. If you want something to blow up, figure out a way for teenagers to embrace it. When Facebook started to attract users of all ages including parents, teenagers were looking for somewhere else to go. And there was Snapchat waiting to accept this young demographic. In addition, Snapchat gave them the privacy they craved so that communication wasn’t watched over by parents or teachers.
  1. Snapchat reduces barriers to photo sharing. You might hesitate to post an unflattering picture or a raw untouched image to Facebook or Instagram. On these social networks, photos need to be pristine and perfect for the best response. By making photos disappear and being a solely mobile application, it’s very easy to share a photo or video on the spot without stopping to think too much about its longevity on a social network.

Conclusion

At just five years old, Snapchat is only just beginning to explore all of the possibilities it holds. Brands are starting to get involved, even the White House, and paid advertising is becoming more frequent. With the rapid growth of the past years, who knows what the next five years hold for Snapchat and its users.

Today there exist Snapchat influencers who are using the platform to entertain, inform, and even change society.

Together, we can create not only a Snapchat, but an entire marketing strategy for your brand. Go Stern Storming today.

How To Use Lenses To Create Animated Selfies

Thanks GeneralTechHQ for this Snapchat Tutorial

Snapchat just got a huge update.

The latest version of the app, which rolled out to iOS and Android Tuesday, adds a suite of new selfie tools, in-app purchases, a new Trophy case feature and more.

The biggest change to Snapchat is the addition of “Lenses,” which allow you to add an array of special effects to photos taken with the front-facing camera. You can unlock the lenses by holding down on your face when the front-facing camera is open in the app.

From there, select the effects from the row on the bottom and follow the instructions. The Lenses aren’t limited to still images either: You can record videos with the effects by holding down on a Lens (just like you would record a video by holding down the app’s shutter.)

There are seven different effects right now, including a rainbow tongue and animated heart eyes, but Snapchat says the Lenses will be updated regularly, with a new effect being rotated in each day.
