Slightly Special | On FIRE Comedy
How about this: a professional Aircraft Firefighting Instructor who has discovered that he has an amazing talent for IMPROV comedy.
SlightlySpecial’s rants and funny business using Snapchat lenses and filters is second to none.
He also can be quite philosophical and gives real true life lessons in his comedy. A YouTube master as well, we sat down with SlightlySpecial to talk about his rise to Snapchat fame.
SCSMM: How did you first discover Snapchat?
I discovered Snapchat a couple of years ago when a friend of mine asked me to join her in a Ten second video. “Why ten seconds?” Was my question and she said “Because Snapchat only allows you to take videos ten seconds at a time for my story”. As soon as I watched her story I was hooked! In my head I knew Snapchat was going to be fun but at the time I had no idea that I would use it to connect with so many people from the world.
SCSMM: What do you like to Snap about?
I love to create short comedy sketches at least three times a week.I realized people don’t always want to hear inspirational quotes over and over and over through someone just saying them all the time, so I decided to create content with a positive message through comedy. I created different characters to get different points across which allows me to get away with saying things I couldn’t if it were just me. I would say 90% of my snaps are created based on a “Shock and Awe” factor. I love to keep high energy and a positive message but be warned. I do end up cursing a lot, it’s very raw but seems to get the job done.
SCSMM: Why should everyone follow you on Snapchat and watch your stories every day?
I’m not afraid to talk about things that others would normally want to avoid. Not to mention I’m a huge fan of shoutouts and building a solid network with other like minded and creative people. Also, my friend chubbs and I get our blog ideas and skit ideas for our YouTube channel from Snapchat, who ever gives us the topic we throw their Snapcode up onto the video and give a lot of promotion to that individual for helping us out!
SCSMM: What would you recommend someone do just starting out on Snapchat?
Set the tone by being yourself and try to come up with creative and unique call to actions by people who view your story. Try not to trend what everyone else is doing, nothing is worse than watching 50 Taco Tuesday stories from 50 different people. Creating content that reflects your values and morals and remember that your story is your story, so don’t let anyone else tell you how you should run your Snapchat account. Just go for and and have fun!
SCSMM: How do you develop your snapchat stories? Are the spontaneous or do you plan them out?
My Snapchat stories are ALWAYS improv. Whenever I’m in a really good mood or just have a great idea it’s easy for me to make a quick skit because my mind tends to over flow with ideas based off my mood and surroundings. The only time my stories are planned is if I’m collaborating from another persons idea, but even then content that’s created ends up random but always makes for a great story.
SCSMM: What else do you do? What is your business?
I have a professional career as a Aircraft Firefighting Instructor in the military, but I also run a new YouTube channel called TOPAZKIN with one of my great friends Who is known as Chubbs on Snapchat (chubbsway). It’s always a blast and a lot of time before we make a skit we will use Snapchat to test the idea and get people’s feedback and input prior to production.
